Wild Flowers in North Cyprus
Whilst most of Northern Europe shivers, the warmth of spring in
North Cyprus means visitors can enjoy magnificent displays of wild
flowers all year-round. In the autumn and winter golden-yellow
oleanders adorn the hills, whilst multi-coloured anemones and
crocuses appear before Christmas. But it is in late winter and
spring that the island blooms into a rhapsody of colour with the
orchid family, cherry-red poppies, cyclamens and narcissi taking
centre stage. Fields in North Cyprus are also infused with wild
flowers in the spring; Waves of anemones and black tulips dance in
the breeze amongst the fields of grain, whilst in the mountains,
buttercups and Cypriot sage and rock cress sprout proudly upon the
craggy surfaces.
Summer is welcomed to North Cyprus with the fragrant scent of citrus
blossom, bright red pomegranate flowers and delicate white buds that
caress the olive trees. Whilst in autumn, purple and white crocuses
lay spectacular carpets of colour across the hilltops, interweaved
with pale pink and white patches from the Cyprus cyclamen.
